Technical Specifications

The Daily Crime Forecast software is a standalone program that uses Microsoft MapPoint 2009 as its mapping component and can operate on a normal Windows workstation (Win XP/Vista, 1 GB RAM). The software links to existing crime datasets (either a police Records Management System or Computer Aided Dispatch system) via an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection. The required data is imported and cached locally on the user's machine, analysed and the forecasts generated. The forecasts can then be viewed through the built-in MapPoint mapping component and exported as web pages to a designated location (local file share or intranet) for front-line officers to view and use. The software includes a scheduler that can automate the whole process so that forecasts can be generated on a daily basis without user intervention.
